You’re Not the Chef

I love to cook. Gathering food items, preparing them, and creating a delectable meal for whomever wishes to partake is a passion of mine. This can be stressful or not; it all depends on the complexity of the menu. The Thanksgiving Day feast, for example, is the test of all tests for a home cook. It can be quite complicated, as there is an excessive amount of side items to prepare, let alone the pressure of serving up a tender, juicy turkey cooked to perfection, warm and golden brown. In all truth, I like the accolades that are showered on me, as I’m a fan of compliments regarding my cooking ability; all the stress it takes to get there usually ends up being worth it.

As relates to our relationship to the unsaved, however, we’re off the hook; we’ll never be the chef but only the waiter or waitress. Our job is only to figure out the best delivery method of the wonderful salvation message God desires every human to hear and then to deliver it. That’s it. Since we did not prepare the meal, we are only to deliver His life-giving feast undoctored and unabridged. No need to add anything to it or take away from it to make it taste better.

Deliver God’s salvation message to the table in pristine condition, and let the Holy Spirit do the rest. It’s really not up to you whether or not the people sitting there eat it.

Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Do not add to his words, lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar. Proverbs 30:5-6

And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Mark 16:15

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. Romans 1:16

Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us.

2 Corinthians 5:20a
