How Much Clearer Can It Be?

Clear water. A clean window. An unobstructed view. Plastic wrap. Ice. Eye glasses. Air. Comprehensive and coherent instructions. These things help us to see exactly what’s on the other side without having to guess. You’ve heard the phrase, Just to be clear, when in communication with someone whose goal it is to give you their understanding on an idea or an instruction, to make sure that what they’re saying is understood so there is no room for error. Sometimes word pictures explain it best, and at other times a direct statement suits the situation. Regardless, we all need clear instruction whether we want it or not. Transparency. Clarification.

I love Proverbs chapter 4 in the Old Testament of the Holy Bible. I’ve read it over and over for years, and it never gets old. Something new is always revealed to fit my situation. The fog lifts. Read this excerpt from Proverbs 4: 11-13 where Solomon addresses his son:

I have taught you in the way of wisdom. I have led you in right paths. When you walk, your steps will not be hindered. When you run, you will not stumble. Take firm hold of instruction; do not let go. Keep wisdom, for she is your life. Proverbs 4:11-13 (Emphasis mine)

Listen to this:

Do not enter the path of the wicked. Do not walk in the way of evil. Avoid it. Do not travel on it; turn away from it and pass on. (Proverbs 4:14-15)

Clear. We get it. Don’t go there. But sometimes, we go regardless. It takes insight, discernment, fortitude, and determination to avoid the devil’s playground.

How about this?

Put away from you a deceitful mouth. Put perverse lips far from you.

Solomon knew from experience that lying and cursing only lead to more. It’s difficult to break free once we begin the weaving process.

Take a look:

Let your eyes look straight ahead and your eyelids look right before you.

The minute we take our eyes off the prize, we become distracted and are in danger of forfeiting the gold.

And finally this:

Ponder the path of your feet and let all your ways be established. Do not turn to the right or to the left. Remove your foot from following evil.

Think about your feet. Where are they going?

It’s all in there, clear instruction written for our protection. God’s wisdom and understanding lead to light, peace, contentment, and joy.

Read it and reap.
