It will likely cost other people more grief than it costs you when you choose to obey God rather than man. It has happened to me more than once. People will not be happy with you when you choose to serve the Lord rather than to attend their festivities and gatherings. The person with whom you’re in a relationship will not like it when you no longer agree to participate in ungodly behaviors. There will be casualties. Losses. What or who are you willing to lose in order to obey Him?
If you are constantly seeking the Lord on the matters of your life, you will know what you must do. You’ll see the red flags waving just for you. You’ll hear the Holy Spirit’s whispers in your ear.
I am reminded of what Charles Stanley says about the subject of obedience: Obey God, and leave the consequences to Him. You are safe there. In the midst of calamity, there is a peace that cannot be understood. Step out. Do the right thing. Don’t wait. These loving commands will cease at some point.
